Bahá'í fResearch™ Windows Text Search System Like this website? Tell a friend! Click to Recommend-It.

You can now download Bahá'í fResearch™, a free Bahá'í text search system for Windows. Bahá'í fResearch™ is a service of the Bahá'íStudies.NETwork™, Bahá'íSite, the MarkFoster.NETwork™, and FosterServices.com™.

Before doing anything, please take note of the following important instructions:

You need to download the system in two parts. For the second part, make a note of the directory (folder) where the files are being downloaded onto your computer.

First, download the following file. Then, double-click on it (from Explorer) to install the program.

Second, to download the self-installing text files, click on the below buttons. Then, after the downloads are completed, double-click on the files from Explorer.

I set it up so that the texts will install, by default, into c:\texts and, in one case, c:\temp, but, during the installation process, you can change that to whatever you like. However, please make sure that all the texts are in the same directory.

After downloading the files, double-click on the executable (.exe) files from Explorer. I set it up so that the texts will install, by default, into c:\texts. However, during the installation process, you can change that to whatever you like.

You may now run the search engine. In the main window (in the box labeled Directory), type in

c:\texts
(or wherever you installed the text files)

In the file mask box, type in:

*.*

I found a freeware utility which will allow you to format text (with or without line breaks). You may find it useful when copying and pasting text from the search engine into (or instance) an email message. Click below to download it. Then, place it into a directory (folder) on your hard drive and create a link to it using Windows Explorer.

Should you have difficulty downloading the files from this site, please visit our mirror site. (Note: It is not as up to date as this site.) In addition, all the files are also available from my Yahoo! Briefcase. You need to have a Yahoo! account to access it. (Note: Public file sharing for regular users of Yahoo! Briefcase has now been disabled. Apologies for the inconvenience.)

If you have any other files you would like to search, you can place them in the folder/directory with the other text files. The advantage of Bahá'í fResearch™ over others which are available is the ability to add additional texts. (Depending on your system, these text files may need to be in ASCII, not in Word, WordPerfect, or another binary, format.)

Please note: I am not the creator of the actual search engine. I simply downloaded it from a web site and combined it with various texts I found around the Internet and on America Online.

If you are using a Macintosh, the extracted text files will likely work fine. You should be able to decompress the .exe files using any Mac unzipping program. You will obviously, however, need to use a different search engine, and the Windows system of long file names differs from the one used by the MacOS, so they will probably get truncated. I saw an inexpensive shareware program called UltraFind on the web. If you try it, please let me know how it works for you. So far, I have received one strong endorsement for that program.

There is also a program called Archive, which is available for both Windows and Mac.

However, since this is a freeware product, I cannot offer much technical assistance. If you find Bahá'í fResearch™ useful, and you are a member of the Bahá'í Faith, I would encourage you to make a contribution to one of the Bahá'í funds commensurate with what you feel the effort is worth.

Meanwhile, I hope that you will visit my various sites:
