Bahá'íStudies.NETwork E-Mail Lists

All fifteen Bahá'íStudies.NETwork™ lists are oriented to a Bahá'í population and to those who are either personally interested in the Bahá'í Faith or in seriously studying it (academically or otherwise).

None of the lists are intended for general discussion; i.e., each one has a particular focus. There are places available on the Internet, such as the soc.religion.bahai Usenet newsgroup, for a more generalized discussion of the Bahá'í Faith.

The first five lists are run on a Lyris listserver located at Johnson County Community College, Overland Park, Kansas (in the Greater Kansas City area). The listowner (Mark A. Foster) is Professor of Sociology at that college, and we are using their computer resources. A web-based archive is maintained on the JCCC Lyris site for each list.

For each of the lists, you may subscribe to either the list (meaning that you will receive each message as it is posted) or to the digest. The content is identical. Digests are sent out at regular intervals or whenever the length reaches its maximum.

The Bahá'í Studies List is for discussion of Bahá'í studies topics, deepening, etc. To subscribe, or to manage an existing subscription, go here.

An additional web-based archive for list messages, courtesy of eScribe, is located here:

The Bahá'í Studies List's chat room, sponsored by eScribe, is here.

The Bahá'í Reality List focuses on ontology (the nature of reality) and cosmology (the worlds of God or conditions of existence) as the foundation for the divine philosophy of the Prophets. Ethics (the acquisition of spiritual qualities or virtues and the eradication of human imperfections) and epistemology (ways of knowing) both require an understanding of divine metaphysics. To subscribe, or to manage an existing subscription go here.

The Bahá'í Bridges List exists primarily for academic Bahá'í studies and scholarship. It is a research-oriented working list. Subscription is by invitation and application only. Individuals may request an invitation and application. However, there is no guarantee that an invitation will be made and an application provided. Please note: The application linked to above is merely a sample and should not be sent to the managers. All applications will be reviewed by the list management team. For information, contact one of the list managers: Dr. Susan Maneck or Dr. Mark A. Foster (listowner). The list's web space is at http://bahaistudies.net/academics.htm. The archive is only available to current subscribers. To manage an existing subscription, go here.

The Bahá'í Meditation List is for discussion of prayer, meditation, spiritual communion, and related subjects. To subscribe, or to manage an existing subscription, go here.

Educate: The Bahá'í Faith, Sociology, and Anthropology List is primarily for sociologists, anthropologists, other interested social scientists, students, and anyone else who would enjoy our company. ;-) We are involved in exploring the role of the social scientist in a Bahá'í context, the social scientific study of the Bahá'í Faith, and other subjects. To subscribe, or to manage an existing subscription, go here.

The Bahá'í Studies in Súfism List is open to anyone who is interested in exploring the intersections (academically, experientially, or otherwise) between the Bábí Faith, the Bahá'í Faith, Súfism, and Shí'ism. A full list description is here.

The same guidelines which apply to the lists operated through my employer's server apply here as well. Consultation is encouraged, while name-calling and flaming are not permitted.

All subscriptions and unsubscriptions are handled through the SpiritWeb site. You must go to this page to join SpiritWeb. If, at some point, you wish to unsubscribe, you will also need to to do so from the SpiritWeb site.

First, complete the application. Second, click on the mailing lists link at the top of the page. Third, once on the lists page, check the subscribe box for the Bahá'í Studies in Sufism list (one of the last ones listed). Finally, click on the Update Mailing List Settings button at the bottom of the page. You will then be subscribed.

I recommend that you either download the zipped information file, or, if you do now know how to unzip files, that you read it online and then save it through your browser:

The Bahá'í Teaching Project List is also run off of a different listserver. Its purpose is to discuss, to plan, and perhaps even to implement teaching projects which are designed to attract individuals to the Bahá'í Faith. It includes, but is not limited to, those techniques which have been referred to as mass teaching.

It is doubtful that folks who are not members of the Bahá'í Faith will want to join the list. However, all are welcome, as long as they are willing to abide by the list guidelines.

The Bahá'í Apologetics List is operated on the same listserver as the Bahá'í Teaching Project List. Its purpose is to formulate proofs and evidences to support the Bahá'í Faith and its teachings. While, strictly speaking, apologetics is a branch of theology, there is no expectation that all list members will be professional theologians or academic scholars of religion.

This list is only open to members of the Bahá'í Faith. Subscribers must be willing to abide by the list guidelines.
